February 11 – ARRIVAL – 10:30 pm – 11:00 pm SCES cafeteria - There will be a
very short arrival gathering to meet families and give out spending money before
children go home with American host families.
February 12 – MANDATORY GATHERING – 5 pm – 6 pm Swimming at Woodlake pool: Fun
activity to allow visiting children to touch base with each other and their chaperones.
Followed by dinner at CiCi’s pizza. COST: $5.00 per swimmer plus dinner.
February 13 – FIRST DAY OF ‘SCHOOL’ – Morning will be spent becoming acquainted
with classroom and school. It will include tours of building to point out important
features such as bathrooms, cafeteria, clinic, etc. Afternoon – At 2 pm the school
will host a Welcoming Ceremony for our new friends, during which the American
children will introduce their French correspondents to the school. There will
be music and a few people will speak.
February 14 – PHYSICAL EDUCATION - 9:30 am – The children will meet with Ms.
Marsha Little, the PEd teacher at Swift Creek Elementary School, for organized
games and physical activity.
February 14 – VALENTINE’S DAY PARTY – Children will have the opportunity to experience
an “American school child’s Valentine’s Day”. They will spend time in the classroom
creating Valentines to give their friends and host families, as well as decorating “mailboxes” in
which to receive cards from others. Like all typical school parties, there will
be sweet treats (cookies, cupcakes, etc.) to eat while they open their “mail”!
February 14 – MANDATORY GATHERING - 6:30 pm School-wide skate night at Skate-Away
on Speeks Road. (rollerskating). COST: $5.00 - $6.00
February 15 – FIELD TRIP – 9 am – 2 pm visit to Pamplin Park (includes lunch) –
$$ Children should bring money for souvenirs ($10-20). From the website: “Journey
back into the 19th Century at Pamplin Historical Park and The National Museum
of the Civil War Soldier! Listed on the National Register of Historic Places
and a Virginia Historic Landmark, Pamplin Historical Park is recognized as one
of America’s premier historical attractions and as the most innovative Civil

information. COST: $13.00 students; $20.00 adults
February 16 – OUTING – The children will visit and tour the local fire station.
February 16 – FAMILY BOWLING – 7 pm - meet at King Pin Lanes on Midlothian Turnpike
for family bowling fun! This fun outing includes shoe rental and two rounds of
bowling for each participant. COST: $ 6.00
February 17 – ART – 9:30 am – The children will meet with Mrs. Angela Patterson,
the art teacher at Swift Creek Elementary School, to complete an art project.
February 17 – PAYDAY – Children will receive second installment of their spending
money.
February 18-20 – LONG WEEKEND – Monday is a school holiday, so families are encouraged
to use the extra time for visiting local and regional areas of interest (Washington,
DC; Williamsburg; etc.)
February 21 – OUTING – $$ Children should bring money for souvenirs ($10).
10 am – Visit and tour Ukrop’s, a locally owned supermarket, for a tour and pizza
lunch - perhaps even a scavenger hunt!
February 21 – PHYSICAL EDUCATION – 2:45 pm – The children will meet with Ms.
Marsha Little, the PEd teacher at Swift Creek Elementary School, for organized
games and physical activity.
February 22 – MUSIC – The children will meet with Mrs. Joanne Sherman, the music
teacher at Swift Creek Elementary School, to learn about traditional American
song and dance.
February 22 – OUTING – 1:30 pm Tour of United Parcel Service facility.
February 22 – MANDATORY GATHERING – 6 pm – Meet at school for a Pot Luck dinner
(everyone brings a dish to share) with BINGO or other fun to follow. (If there
is a Spectacle to be performed, this would be the night and we’ll have that instead
of BINGO.)
February 23 – FIELD TRIP – $$ Children should bring money for souvenirs ($10-20).
9:30 am – 5 pm visit to Jamestown Settlement, the first permanent English settlement
in the “New World”. Settlement includes replicas of Native America (Indian)
village, colonial village and ships used for voyage from England, as well as

COST: $10.00 students; $6.00 adults
February 24 – LAST MINUTE SHOPPING – 10 am – A short shopping trip to a local
shopping center to purchase last minute gifts and souvenirs.
February 25 – DEPARTURE – 3:30 p.m. Families will gather to say goodbye to their
new family members and friends!
**** Visits to other classrooms within the school, the local fire station and
short shopping trips (to Target or the local mall) will be added as time provides.
